Overview

The Boron Octopus is not held in high esteem, and is considered by many to be one of the most useless ships available. However, it is quick, even for a scout.

There are 3 variants of the Octopus; Sentinel, Raider and Vanguard.

Background

The Octopus was developed to become the Boron version of the Discoverer, and to work in concert with it, reflecting the alliance between the Boron Kingdom and the Argon Federation. When it first rolled off the production line this ship was cutting edge and impressed friend and foe alike, but since then it has not been updated quickly enough to maintain the sharp edge and now its threat is purely legend.

The Octopus was developed to be the Boron version of the Discoverer. Its design was revolutionary and all races, when it was first seen, were very keen to know how effective it was. The success of the Octopus sent ripples throughout the Boron sectors as more was produced, but today it is considered to be obsolete, although it is still in service.

Variants

Octopus

Not featuring any fancy title, the basic version of the ship is the standard by which other variants are measured.

Octopus Sentinel

Sentinel variants of ships tend to be slower, but with higher total shield capacity. Sometimes the shield class is also upgraded for instance from 25 MJ to 200 MJ.

Octopus Raider

Raider variants are faster and usually have a higher shield generator power than their regular counterparts, but trade off cargo capacity and some have reduced shield capacity despite the more powerful generator.

Octopus Vanguard

Vanguard variants of ships are slightly faster and have bigger weapons generators than their regular counterparts.

Combat

The Octopus mounts only the weakest weapon available, the IRE. Coupled with its poor shielding, this means that it has to be lucky to bring down even another M5. It is not a combat vessel.

Suggested Roles
