Overview[edit]
Too slow to be of value to most pilots, the Teladi Kea is usually overlooked as a fighter, but does have some niche applications.
Background[edit]
Variants[edit]
Kea[edit]
Not featuring any fancy title, the basic version of the ship is the standard by which other variants are measured.
Enhanced Kea[edit]
The Enhanced Kea is a major improvement over the standard version in that it boasts the largest cargo bay out of any M3+, as well as the largest out of any fighter in the game, with a capacity that rivals most M8 bombers. This makes it excellent as a mini-missile boat in IS and OOS work, especially if it is fitted with Tornado Missiles. Other than that, it has slightly improved performance over its standard counterpart.

Pirate Kea[edit]
Pirate vessels are cobbled together from parts of captured ships. While often retaining the basic shape and configuration of the host vessel, pirate ships can be wildly different from the official variant, usually featuring unsanctioned weapons. Pirates sometimes decorate their ships with a distinctive flame motif.
Physical Characteristics[edit]
The Kea resembles a cross between a NASA space shuttle and the Falcon. It has a slit cockpit at the bow and upswept delta wings. It is rather flat, which makes it easy to hit from above or below.
Combat[edit]
Due to its slow speed, the Kea simply cannot pursue an opponent. This means it fights battles defensively, picking off attacking ships as they try to break the Kea's heavy shielding. It works well as a light gunboat and as a squadron leader since it can provide supporting fire while the faster ships can gun down assailants. It is recommended that you put phased repeater guns in the turrets since they are faster firing and will score more hits than slower firing weapons. Nonetheless, its cargo bay is huge enough to put in a plethora of missiles ranging from anti-fighter missiles like the Tempest Missile to deadly anti-capital ship swarm missiles like the Tornado Missile.
As a player ship the Kea is an oddity. Its slow speed is a turn off to most players, but if you fly it right and work with your turrets the Kea is a mighty ship.
In addition, it can mount plasma burst generators, which means it can effectively fight any foe.
Equipment[edit]
Availability[edit]
The standard Kea is available at five of the six Teladi Shipyards.

The Enhanced Kea is gifted by NMMC upon reaching rank 10. It is also granted (with wildly varying stats) by the Tormented Teladi gamestart.
The Pirate Kea is only available by capture.
Suggested Roles[edit]
The Kea is an able, if expensive, choice for a fighter-class freighter. The Enhanced Kea makes the standard version obsolete once you acquire it.
As a combatant, it could possibly work best OOS with a full battery of HEPTs. IS, thanks to its cavernous cargo bay, a combination of 2xPBGs and 6xEBCs with their corresponding ammunition and/or missiles en masse would work neatly.
