Overview[edit]
The Tyr is an extremely tough Terran destroyer, and provides the heavy gun platform for the ATF. It has more weapon slots than any other vessel in the game except the ATF's own Valhalla, but prior to Albion Prelude patch 3.0, its inadequate cargo bay meant it could not mount the powerful loadout that is expected from a ship of its prestige. As of the Shady Business patch, a larger cargo bay means the Tyr can mount full batteries of its most powerful weapons.
Background[edit]
The AGI Task Force maintains a considerable number of these heavy battleships, which provide excellent defensive and offensive options for the Earth fleet.
Combat[edit]
When fielding the Tyr in Terran Conflict, the ship's weapons are often configured asymmetrically, with only one full broadside of Point Singularity Projectors. Thanks to the PSP's relative weakness compared to the Commonwealth Photon Pulse Cannon, the player must charge the weapons' shots personally to deal the most damage possible, but this leaves the Tyr very vulnerable to incoming fire. This makes the Tyr a difficult ship to pilot, but very deadly in the hands of a capable pilot
As of Albion Prelude patch 3.0, the Tyr has the cargo to fill every weapon slot with its most powerful weapons and mount a full set of six 2 GJ Shields. This allows the Tyr to out-perform the Osaka in direct combat. However, it has very little cargo space remaining for jump fuel or missiles, so it is best used for defensive duty where it will not be required to fire missiles. The Osaka is more useful for longer-range operations.
Equipment[edit]
Availability[edit]
Like all ATF capital ships, the Tyr cannot be bought at any Shipyard in Terran Conflict. They must instead be successfully boarded to add it to the player's fleet.
They are available for purchase in Albion Prelude:

Suggested Roles[edit]
In Terran Conflict, thanks to a small cargo bay limiting the Tyr's firepower, it should only be flown personally by the player. The Osaka and the Kyoto, both of which require similar investment to obtain, are far more capable in the AI's hands.
In Albion Prelude (as of patch 3.0), the ship is a fully-capable warship, but does not have extra cargo space for long-range jumps. It is better suited for protecting your factories that will be attacked during the new plots.
