Aegir

Overview[edit]
The ATF Aegir is an imposing vessel. It is faster than the ATF corvettes, has many turreted weapons and sports a large cargobay for supplies. Its heavy (5 GJ) shielding gives it excellent survivability, although it is quite large and therefore tends to take heavy damage from capital weaponry. Like the other Terran/ATF frigate, the Terran Yokohama, the Aegir cannot use the PSP and instead must rely on the corvette level Matter/Anti-Matter Launcher for reliable damage output against heavy opponents and the Starburst Shockwave Cannon for fighters.
Background[edit]
Although a recent addition to the counter AGI effort, the Aegir heavy frigate has already established itself as an essential part of the ATF's order of battle.
Physical Characteristics[edit]
Roughly twice the length of the ATF Skirnir, the Aegir is identifiable from long range due to its immense size and distinct crossbow bolt-shaped profile. Its hull is a grey color offset by light blue highlights, the most obvious of which emenates from the Aegir's single massive rear engine.
Combat[edit]
The Aegir is unable to deal enough damage to another capital ship using only its guns - which are really only heavy corvette-grade weapons - to be effective in that respect. However, it does not need to use its guns as it equips the tremendously powerful Wraith Missile. An Aegir equipped with Starburst Shockwave Cannons and Wraiths is essentially unbeatable by any ship in any number save an M7M class missile frigate.

Availability[edit]
The Aegir is unbuyable, and can only be acquired by pirating one from an ATF patrol. Aegirs typically serve as escorts for larger ATF ships and likely have several Vali corvettes as escorts of their own.
As of Albion Prelude, you can buy the Aegir from most Terran Shipyards.
Suggested Roles[edit]
Though it can be used in direct combat, the Aegir's defining features are its speed and cargo space, making it an excellent fleet resupply craft in heated situations. Capable of ferrying missiles, jump fuel and other assorted items with room to spare for its own equipment, this is truly where the Aegir comes into its own.
Alternatively, it can be used effectively as a missile boat due to its access to all Terran missiles, notably the wraith for killing capitals and poltergeist for fighters, though its weapon arrays are more than a match for most fighter swarms.
